Candidate/End-user Usage - What Do I Need to Access the Website?

1) Internet Access

To be able to utilize the NAED www.powerupyourcareer.com website, you must have internet access and a web browser installed on your computer.  Accepted browsers will be covered in the next section.

Internet access is provided by you, the candidate, and includes any dial-up, DSL, or Cable Broadband.  You can also access the internet through your local library if you do not have internet access at home.

You must also have a valid working email account.  This account is used for registration and other services provided by NAED.  If you did not receive an email account from your internet service provider, you may register for a free account from Google, yahoo, or MSN Hotmail.

2) Accepted Browsers

When using any browser, it is recommended that you always use the latest version for performance and security issues.  The following browsers have been tested and are suitable for use with the www.powerupyourcareer.com website.

Internet Explorer – Version 6(Microsoft Windows 2000) and Version 7 (Microsoft Windows XP/Vista)
Mozilla Firefox – Version 2 and 3
Safari - version 3
IE 7 is free to download and use if you are using Microsoft Windows XP/Vista and Mozilla Firefox is free and available for both PC and Mac. Below are the websites to download the respective recommended browsers.

*Note – It is recommended that you use either IE 7 or Mozilla Firefox when using the www.powerupyourcareer.com website.  While there are many different browsers out there, we cannot guarantee reliable and secure performance with all of them.  For this reason, please use only a recommended browser from above that has been tested with the site.

3) Required Software

To fully utilize www.powerupyourcareer.com you’ll need:

A web browser, as discussed above and Adobe Flash Player.  Adobe Flash Player allows you to view all of the videos that the www.powerupyourcareer.com uses and is available free from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash .

Your web Browser also needs to have cookies enabled.  I will describe how to enable cookies for each browser.

Firefox – Go to the tools menu.  Then click on Options.  When the options window opens, click on the Privacy section.  Now make sure the “Accept cookies from sites” checkbox is checked. 




    
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 – Go to the tools menu and click on Internet Options.  When the options window opens, click on the Privacy tab and then on the Advanced button.  Check the Override automatic cookie handling checkbox, make certain the “Accept” radio button is selected under the First-party Cookies section and then click “ok”.







Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 - Go to the tools menu and click on Internet Options.  When the options window opens, click on the Privacy tab and then on the Advanced button.  Check the Override automatic cookie handling checkbox, make sure the “Accept” radio button is selected under the First-party Cookies section and then click “ok”. 







Safari (Windows) – Go to the Edit menu and click on preferences.  When the window opens click on the security button and make sure that “Enable cookies always” is selected.





Safari (Mac) – Go to the Safari menu and click on preferences.  When the window opens click on the security button and make sure that “Enable cookies always” is selected.





If you wish to read any PDF documents that you may receive, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader which is free from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html .

4) What to do if Flash on web site cannot be viewed

If you are unable to view the Adobe Flash movies on the www.powerupyourcareer.com website, please confirm your computer is able to properly display the Flash video.  The minimum requirements are located here http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb403107&sliceId=2

If your computer meets the medium requirements, then just re-install Adobe flash player.  This typically resolves the issue.

Once installed, the area in the purple box should say installed successfully and the area in the red box will play a flash video.

5) What to do if Adobe PDFs cannot be viewed

If you are unable to view Adobe PDF files, you need to install the Adobe PDF reader as explained above in the required software section.
